Cleveland Casement Windows

Casement Windows Open Up Your Home with Ease

Casement windows have a versatile design that makes them a popular addition to homes of any style or architectural era. Long, narrow casements have been featured on Tudor-style homes for centuries. They’re equally appealing in more contemporary houses where glass and natural light are part of the home’s design.

Free of dividing sashes, casement windows provide uncluttered sightlines and unobstructed sunlight. With the turn of a crank, you can catch a fresh breeze. These features make casement windows an ideal option for high and hard-to-reach places.

Commonly known as: crank windows, side hinge windows, side hung windows, hinged windows

Popular Local Trends & Styles

  • wooden casement windows Tudor Style

Tudor architecture is distinctive yet eclectic. You may have seen their characteristic steep gables and decorative half-timbering in the Southern Moreland neighborhood in Shaker Heights or in parts of West Akron. The vertical design of casement windows works well in Tudor style, which emphasizes the height of the home. Casement windows were also commonly used together with picture windows in two- and three-window combinations that fit inside the exposed wood beams.

  • casement window sizes Energy-Efficient Windows Cleveland has a diverse climate. Energy-efficient casement windows can help keep your home comfortable no matter what type of weather rolls off the lake. In addition to extra window glass, double-pane and triple-pane windows have gas between the panes to provide additional insulation against the elements. Choosing replacement casement windows with multiple panes of glass can reduce your energy costs when you’re upgrading from single-pane windows.
  • vinyl casement windows Contemporary Windows

Contemporary design emphasizes natural light and minimalism. The unobstructed sightlines and simplicity of casement windows make them a contemporary favorite. Contemporary casement windows have a modern finish, minimalist hardware and neutral tones. Wood window frames add texture and bring visual interest to contemporary homes.

  • black casement window frames Black Window Frames

Black trim is a growing trend for both the interior and exterior of the home. Black casement windows modernize your interior design by providing a stark contrast from the rest of your decor and drawing the eye to your windows. On the outside, black frames can add a simple, elegant look to traditional white houses or complement darker shades for a deeper color scheme.

Recommended Customizations1

Contemporary style borrows from modern design. For that sleek of-the-moment feel, choose simple, angular fold-away cranks in a steely chrome or nickel. Tudor homes feature more ornate and traditional decor. Curvy casement window hardware in brass or bronze is a better fit. Square grilles complement both Tudor and contemporary architecture. Cleveland Climate Recommendations

Cleveland has a temperate climate, which means cold winters and mild summers. The city’s location next to Lake Erie brings more precipitation in the form of spring rains and lake effect snow in the winter. Adding features to maximize energy efficiency and durability can prep your casement windows for the Cleveland climate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  •   How do I remove the hardware from my casement or awning windows?
    • To remove the lock lever from your casement or awning window:

      1. Open the window to its widest point.
      2. Place the lock lever down, in the locked position.
      3. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the exposed opening on the exterior of the window at the point where the lever and lock cam meet.
      4. Turn the screwdriver 1/4 turn to the right, pulling the lock lever out at the same time.
      5. To reinstall, simply snap the lever back into place.

To remove the roto cover for the crank handle from your casement or awning window:

      1. Unfold the handle.
      2. Loosen the set screw with a flat-blade screwdriver. Make note of the position of the handle, and then remove the screw. You'll want to replace the handle in the same position after you reinstall the cover.
      3. Grasp the roto cover and pull it straight back. You'll feel some resistance as you are pulling.

      To replace the roto cover:

      1. Align the cover in the original position and push it back into the bracket.
      2. Reinstall the handle and tighten the set screw.
