Project Details

One of Boston’s most popular suburbs, Newton, Massachusetts is not only home to Boston College and part of the Boston Marathon route, but to beautiful historic colonials, some of which were used on the Underground Railroad. When the owners of a stunning 1848 colonial were ready for a remodel, they came to Arone Brothers to help complete their vision. Together, the contractor and the homeowners selected premium wood windows that would exemplify the home’s historic charm.

Colonial Windows Deliver Historically Authentic Designs

To maintain the historical integrity of the home, Pella Reserve – Traditional wood window and patio door designs were chosen for this renovation. They feature detailed sash and grille profiles that express the art of windowmaking. The classic double-hung windows with a traditional grille pattern decorate the façade of this colonial. On the exterior, the white windows match the white siding while a blue hinged door, shutters and copper gutters and downspouts provide elegant contrast. On the interior, the white windows blend with the crisp white walls to make the home feel larger.

Classic French Doors Nod to the Home’s Past

With nearly endless customizations, the homeowners chose wood hinged doors to create elegant entrances to their home. The in-swing doors open towards the interior of the home, filling the home with natural light. Exemplifying traditional colonial style, the doors feature Pella’s Integral Light Technology grilles. These historically accurate grilles are permanently adhered to the interior and exterior of the window, providing the look of individual windowpanes while delivering exceptional energy efficiency.

Modern Sliding Patio Doors Provide Indoor/Outdoor Living

To round out the renovation, the homeowners wanted to bring more light and entertaining space to the back of their home. With the desire for indoor/outdoor living, 4-panel French sliding patio doors were added to the main level and walk-out basement of the home. They provide a grand opening to the large back deck and beautifully landscaped backyard. The expansive 4-panel doors part in the middle, like traditional French hinged doors, but slide along a track conserving valuable indoor and outdoor floorspace. With coordinating traditional grilles, the modern doors complement the traditional appearance of the rest of the home.
